What is blended learning?
Blended learning means using a combination of training delivery methods (including electronic, human and print resources) to provide education. With our programs, the combination is a computer-based software blended with live tutoring sessions for flexible, fast, and effective language learning.
LRDG’s blended approach combines the best of both worlds: the always accessible pedagogical content via our online software and the personal engagement of a tutor-led session. Our approach takes your individual needs into consideration and allows you to advance at your own pace.
-
What is the difference between the full-time and the part-time programs?
The LRDG full-time program is the perfect solution for individuals looking to master the French or English language in the most cost-effective and timely manner. It is specifically designed for intensive, accelerated language training. After completing the program, you will be able to use French or English effectively in various situations including personal and professional settings. The full-time program consists of 22.5 hours/week of self-study (work or home) and 15 hours/week of private tutoring .
The LRDG part-time program is specifically designed for individuals who need or want to perfect their French or English language skills, but can only dedicate between 4 and 12 hours per week to language training. The program will allow you to acquire efficient communication strategies in oral and written contexts and to gain confidence in the workplace. Thanks to our flexible tutoring options, the part-time program is compatible with a full-time work schedule.. The part-time program consists of 5-9 hours/week of self-study and 2-3 hours/week of private tutor training.
-
What is Second Language Evaluation (SLE) preparation?
The Second Language Evaluation (SLE) preparation course is an accelerated training program designed to prepare you for the Public Service Commission (PSC) tests. The SLE preparation consists of an average of 20 hours of tutor support combined with 40 hours of self-study per linguistic competency, typically on a full-time, accelerated basis. The SLE preparation consists of:
- Oral assessment - an initial oral assessment is performed to make sure that you are at the required, minimum starting level to benefit from the SLE preparation.
- Test preparation - test simulations allow you to master identified weak areas
- Support materials - sections of selected modules of Pour l’amour du françaisMD and For the Love of English™ software programs are provided to you.
-
Do you have a program that can help me maintain my current proficiency?
Yes, we do. The Linguistic Maintenance program is intended for individuals who are looking to maintain their B or C language proficiency levels.
This program follows our effective, proven methodology (1 hour of tutoring combined with 3 to 5 hours of self-study per week) and is specifically adapted to your individual needs. During the tutoring period, the tutor builds your course plan by identifying your strengths and weaknesses. You are then given access to the specific modules you’ll need to perfect your language skills. The Linguistic Maintenance Program focuses on the following: pronunciation and accent, business French or English, and grammar.
-
Which module or level should I start with?
Your starting module is determined by an initial evaluation. If you are taking the blended learning option, your tutor will recommend the appropriate module following an assessment. If you choose the self-directed study option, taking the free online evaluation will determine your starting module.
-
How many hours of self-study am I required to do every week?
Full-time learners:
With the blended learning training, you will have 15 hours of private tutoring/week. For each hour of tutoring, you will be required to have completed 1.5 hours of self-study.
Part-time learners:
With the blended learning training, you will have 2-3 hours of private tutoring per week. For each hour of tutoring, you will be required to have completed 3-5 hours of self-study. Keep in mind that the more time you invest in your language learning (self-study & tutor sessions), the faster you will get closer to your targeted level!
-
How long does it take to complete a module?
The time it takes to complete a module depends on multiple factors such as your learning capacity, the level of the module, and your chosen learning option. For instance, individuals working with a tutor may complete a module faster because they have assistance. If you are a part-time learner taking tutoring lessons, you should be able to complete a module in 10 weeks (on average).
